Welcome message from the president

Dear Freshmen,

I like to extend my warmest welcome to all of you for joining the OUHK family. May I also congratulate you that your efforts have paid off after years of hard work studying at school and overcoming numerous examinations.

I fully understand that you may find it challenging to embark on a new chapter in your life, but I can assure you that you have made the right decision to enter this University. The OUHK is committed to providing quality higher education to meet your learning aspiration and preparing you for a fulfilling career through our professional and versatile curriculum. Abundant opportunities and a variety of experiential learning experiences are here waiting for you, and I firmly believe that your university life at the OUHK would be as fruitful, colourful and rewarding as you can ever imagine.

As you are all new to the OUHK, I would also like to briefly introduce the University to you. The OUHK was founded in 1989 by the Government with the mission of providing higher education accessible to all. Since 2001, we have launched full-time programmes in response to society’s pressing need for higher education opportunities. In 2007, we successfully joined JUPAS and we are proud to have become a full-fledged university with student enrolment close to 20,000, in which full-time student population is more than 9,000 at present.

There are a lot of new developments at the University in recent years, one of which is the recent completion of our brand new campus on Sheung Shing Street – the OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare. Built for offering all OUHK students an ideal place conducive for learning, the new campus will provide not only advanced technology and state-of-the-art facilities for our training of nursing and other healthcare professionals, but also additional learning and amenity facilities for all students to enjoy.

This year, due to the COVID-19 situation, the University has to conduct all lectures and tutorials in real-time interactive mode by using Zoom for the time being, but we will certainly resume our face-to-face classes when the situation is stabilized. To provide you with useful tips to your campus life as well as vital information about the plentiful resources and abundant opportunities that you could not miss, we have specially built up this website for you to guide you through your new journey.

I wish you all enjoy your University life here, and I assure you that we will be here to give you support to adapt to the new environment and embrace the new opportunities here. If you come across any problems during your study, please do not hesitate to reach out to your professors or staff of our Student Affairs Office.

I earnestly hope that the pandemic situation can be resolved soon and I look forward to greeting you on campus. May I wish you healthy and well, and all the best in your new journey at the OUHK!

Sincerely,

Yuk-Shan Wong

President
